Gay now 3rd fastest of all time over 200m
Is Tyson Gay now back on form or is this just a blip after a stunning failure to live up to his potential and his poor effort at being an effective US relay team member in Beijing?
Fast is fast and a third fastest time ever is not to be ignored; let's hope he can avoid injury, keep his head clear and perhaps give Bolt a run for his money. June is the big month for US track and 200m.com will be watching. from USA Today: (more at the link) Gay ran 19.58 seconds — the third-best time in history behind Usain Bolt's 19.30 at the 2008 Olympics and Michael Johnson's 19.32 at the '96 Games. Gay will not run the June 7 Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., and is unlikely to race before the June 25-28 U.S. Championships in Eugene, according to his agent, Mark Wetmore. Wetmore said chances are 95% that Gay will run only the 100 at nationals. As defending champion in the 100 and 200, he gets a bye in both to the Aug. 15-23 world championships in Berlin. Wetmore expects European meet organizers, including those representing the July 24-25 London Grand Prix, to bid for a Bolt-Gay showdown before worlds. |
